EXPERIENCE

1-emma-mossI have been the Assistant Headteacher, English Coordinator and Foundation Stage/Key Stage One lead at St Silas CE Primary School for the past five years. I have successfully raised attainment in Literacy across the school by developing a team of subject leaders with individual strengths in phonics, reading and language for Life. I have facilitated their role by providing them with relevant training opportunities, undertaking joint lesson observations and supporting them through regular coaching to ensure an effective self-evaluation cycle.

I believe that it is important to equip staff with high quality training to enable individual development as distributed leadership is a powerful strategy for motivating staff through giving them ownership of school improvement. This team approach has ensured the effective development of phonics and spelling, grammar and punctuation throughout the school, the delivery of Guided Reading training, the implementation of Better Reading and Every Child a Reader interventions, the expansion of the reading scheme and the implementation of a robust reading assessment.

During regular tracking meetings, I use coaching techniques to enable the middle leaders to reflect upon and challenge poor performance and hold everyone accountable. To implement the new grammar strand of the National Curriculum, I have recently been working alongside a lecturer from Manchester Metropolitan University, focussing on the impact of new teaching and learning strategies on EAL learners.

In 2009- 2012, I undertook the role of Lead Teacher for, ‘Every Child a Writer,’ for Blackburn with Darwen Local Authority. This involved working within other schools to support the professional development of staff, addressing national issues to ensure faster progress of children at the beginning of Key Stage Two.

I have recently led and supported the training of teacher students on the schools direct programme with TEAM.
