Roe Lee Park Primary School

Assessment and Behaviour and Discipline

My name is Laura Butterworth and I am in my eighth year of teaching in Blackburn with Darwen. I am currently the Deputy Headteacher at Roe Lee Park Primary school with responsibility for Assessment and English.

I love my job and am highly passionate about using assessment within school as an opportunity to improve upon our teaching practise and move forward the learning of all children by identifying key groups and areas for development within their education.

Throughout my four years leading assessment, I have overseen the implementation of a whole new system of assessing children without levels, analysed both attainment and progress at regular intervals, tracked key groups of children such as those receiving Pupil Premium, tracked slower moving learners and set up a system that allows staff to analyse their pupil’s test papers, producing clear key areas of learning that they need to re-visit to ensure that there are absolutely no gaps in the children’s learning.

In my spare time, I enjoy reading, films, martial arts, clog dancing and pampering my pet tortoise called Flash.
