My name is Jackie Starkie and I was until recently, Deputy Head Teacher at Newfield Special School in Blackburn. I was also the lead Team-Teach trainer within the school and had been since 2009. I left teaching in the summer of 2015 to become a Senior Team-Teach Tutor, delivering training within Blackburn with Darwen, Lancashire, Blackpool and Manchester City Council. For those of you who are not familiar with Team-Teach, it is an accredited training framework for schools and care settings, who are working with children and young people who display a wide range of challenging behaviour. Team-Teach is accredited by a number of National organisations including Ofsted, but most notably by The Departments of Health and Education and Institute of Conflict Management (ICM). The training focuses on verbal and non-verbal communication, on diversion and deescalation of problem situations, includes positive handling skills and if absolutely necessary – safe, effective and humane physical interventions. Team-Teach training helps to create a working environment in which staff have a greater understanding of why children and young people display challenging behaviours; where staff develop shared values and support one another through a common approach to behaviour management. The training also offers schools a stronger sense of professional security around anxious, troubled and sometimes troublesome individuals.
“Very informative! A practical and sensitive approach to handling potentially challenging situations”……”Everyone made to feel at ease….very worthwhile training.”

“[Following the Team-Teach training] the feedback from staff has been fantastic! They are
really buzzing about it and just feel so much more confident. Thanks so much….”
